Washington, D.C. — Federal Workers Alliance for Democracy released a statement following reports that the FBI executed a search warrant on Wednesday morning at the home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson in a stunning violation of the right to the freedom of the press in America.
“Federal workers stand in solidarity with Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson. The FBI’s seizure of her cell phone, laptops, and even her Garmin watch will have a chilling effect on reporters and their ability to uplift the voices and stories the public needs to know.
Hannah has served as a trusted, reputable, and empathetic channel for federal workers’ stories, even at the expense of her own mental health.
A free press is a pillar of American democracy, and actions such as this chip away at our core values as a nation.
As federal workers, we have sworn to uphold the Constitution and call out wrongdoing for the benefit of the American people. We still need Hannah and other journalists with integrity to tell federal workers’ stories, because federal workers are not backing down, and neither should America’s free press.”
